Message from the Interim Priest

There is some sad news from St. David’s. Effective immediately, the rector, the Rev. Cameron Burns is on medical leave from the parish. At this moment the expectation is that Cameron will return in three to six months. Our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Jane Alexander, met with vestry this week and told us that the most supportive thing we can do as a parish is to continue the good work that we do in the community and in support of one another. All the ministries in this parish are ongoing and there is a momentum and energy that we will continue to build on.

The Ven. Kathy Bowman will be the interim priest, working half-time. With the help of the lay readers and Canon Dan Van Alstine, services will be as usual. All the groups in the parish will continue and the planned basement renovations are going ahead.

This is what you can do to be supportive:

  • Pray for Cameron, Andrea, Milo and Dahlia.
  • Give Cameron and his family some privacy and space. That means don’t call them.
  • If you do happen to see them, be friendly and caring, but not intrusive. You can send a supportive card or note.
  • Don’t gossip.
  • Continue to be faithful servants of Christ at St. David’s and in the world.

I also appreciate your support as I learn the systems, ways of doing things and needs of St. David’s. If you have any concerns or know of any needs in the parish please contact me. I will check phone messages at the church regularly. My email is kathy@st-davids.ca.

May God bless all of you

~ The Ven. Kathy Bowman
